Move from where you're at
Life can often feel like a bit of a battle.
We spend much of our lives in the mundanity of everyday routine, become easily lost in thoughts which seem to repeat on an endless loop and all too often feel like we have lost sight of ourselves, of what is most important to us.
We spend much of our lives in the mundanity of everyday routine, become easily lost in thoughts which seem to repeat on an endless loop and all too often feel like we have lost sight of ourselves, of what is most important to us.
At certain points in our lives, circumstances force us to stop and take stock of our lives. Whether it be a significant birthday, a relationship starting or ending, a new job, a health problem, the death of a parent, the birth of a child, we begin to look at how we spend our time, what we have achieved so far, ask ourselves whether we are heading in a direction that we want to head in.
At these moments, it is, in my experience, necessary to begin from where we are.
Whatever our dream for our life is, the first step is always to be honest about where we are now. If we can accept who and how we are in our lives at this moment, then the possibility of change arises.
Over many years I have explored this acceptance for myself, I have found various practices which help, including dance and movement, meditation, compassion and the loving presence of other people on a similar journey.
The 'Move from where you're at' approach is not about changing who you are: it is about growing ever more deeply accepting of who you are. Because the more permission we give ourselves, the more kindness and love we are offered, the more it is possible to feel deep joy about ourselves and our lives; the more it becomes possible to make the changes we want to make to our circumstances. Because, rather than willpower and force which tend to run out of steam, those changes arise from love.
And love always helps us to bloom and grow.
